"Starting Over in Oakland" my reactions

Once again, people with vision making a difference. This segment showed the parents being asked about their interest level in improving the schools. It was a misnomer that most people believed that the parents just did not care. At the public gathering, he learned that the parents really did care about their children's education. They needed leaders. They needed a person with vision. The New School Development Program not only opened one, but two new schools in 4 months! "Starting over in Oakland " proved that with the correct leadership, anything is possible.

You know, it is interesting that most parents do care. There could be various reasons that they never get involved. Often in poorer communities, parents are intimidated by the school system because they lack understanding of how the system operates. At the same time, the school rarely encourages interaction since most seems to be negative when a parent becomes involved in curriculum. Yet, parents are a key stakeholder to their child's academic success. I often wonder what could schools do better?
